Director Division of Investigation Ue. 8S. Department of Justice <= Washington, DeCo Dear Sir: Kindly refer to letter from this office dated October , 1933, with reference to an address on the part of Bugene C. eppert, Director of Police, Kansas City, Missouri, during which he charged the Federal Government with being criminally negligent in the Union Station Massacre case. You will probably be interested to know that I recently discussed Mr. Reppert's speech with Sheriff Thome Bash and with Mr. Merle Gill, Ballistician. Both of these gentlemen have etated that they have heard various comments regarding Mr. Reppert’s talk with the result that they have reached an opinion that the speech reacted very unfavorably towards Mr. Reppert. ‘They have tated that various pereons have informed them thet the general © reaction was favorable to thie Division and that there was @ re- eentrent against Reppert for having made such statements. Sheriff Bash and Mr. G111 have also informed me that . they have recently been making addresses to luncheon clubs then- eelves, and that on each occasion they have taken the opportunity of speaking in commendable terms regarding the Division of Investigation. They state, however, that they have not made any direct comments regarding Reppert's speech in their addresses because they bave not felt that hie telk should be © dignified by any reply. - "very truly yours aie ys hs Em par te eepeine “2, haar) YS 2 : : Stel NOOB E.
