Department of Justice, ving Sy Washington, De C. ma y Loe th, ha atk “4 wah -" " Dear Sir: Referring to ycur letter of October 13, 1933, conceming the arrest of Bob“brady and James“Clark by Sheriff Ira Allen, Tucumcari, New Mexico, and the apparent lack ofytooperation between Sheriff Allen and thie office in the matter of reporting thie arrest to the San Antonio office. This letter wes received during my ebsence end I have diecusaed toe matter with acting SAC CR. Davie, who advised me that early the next morning after publicity was given concerning the arrest of Brady and Clark he immediately telephoned to Sheriff Allen who advised me that he had in-~ tended phoning the San antonio office, however, he had received a telephone call from SAC R. H. Colvin, Oklahoma City, and had given Mr. Colvin the detaile concerning the arrest of Brady and Clark and in view of the fact — : that the information was in the hands of a representative of the Division be did not telephone the San Antonio office, Lo On the morning that the Press carried «a notice concerning the trreat of Brady and Clark at Tucumcari, New Mexico, I was in Ckishoma City aa and was advised by SAC Colvin that a representative of the Associated Press, who was in close contact with the Oklahoma City office, due to the trial of the Urechel case, had advised him the evening before, almost inmedietely efter tue arrest of Brady and Clark that such an arrest hed been made by the Sheriff at Tucumcari, New Mexico, Mr. Colvin further advised me that ime mediately upon receiving this tip from the Associated Press, he communi cated by long distance direct with Sheriff Allen at Tucumcari, New Mexico, receiv- ing the detaile concerning this arrest and hed advised the Division. I at that time asked Agent Colvin if he hed advieed the San Antonio office upon receipt of this tip from the Associated Press and peglected to do 86. Thies office has close cantact with Sheriff Alien at Tocumearl, New Mexico, aue to the fact that Special agent Je A.
