MEMORANDUM FOR THE DIRECTOR.
At 7:55 o’clock this evening I received a long
distance telephone call from Special Agent Turrou. Re atated
that while proceeding to Paragould, ark., fccording to instruc-
tions, the car which he was driving waa crowded off the road .
into a ditch, end that he had suffered painful injuries, consist-
ing of severe bruises end cuts around the head, face, and eyes, .
end general bruises about the body, that the Doctor who exemined aK
him feared that he had concussion of one lung and possible fracture . ~
of one or more ribs. Agent Turrou stated that the eaecident had
occurred just outside of Jonesboro, Ark., and that he was then in
the St. Bernard Hospital at Jonesboro, that the Doctor had advised
him to remain there until his chest could be x-rayed for the purpose
of determining if any ribs hed been fractured. He further stated
that after seeing lirs. Conner arraigned at Memphis, Tenn., he had
atarted for Paragould, that he observed thia car following him for
some distance outside of Memphis, and that he observed it several
times after that, that about twenty miles outside of Jonesboro, the
car drove up alongside of him and deliberately forced him into the
ditch with the results stated above. He has advised the police at
Jonesboro of the description of the car and they are making a search
for it. I instructed. Agent Turroute remain at the hospital end that
I would haye Mr, Hughes contact him there.
Mir, Hughes was advised of the above. He desires to advise

Chipman proceed to Jonesboro aleo and that Chipman was to make an
effort to trace the car which had caused the above accident. Mr.
Hughes also stated that he had talked to Agent Turrou, who related
the same details as given, and that it wae evidently a deliberate
_move on the part of the gang rho hed discovered Agen ’
