MEMORANDUM FOR THE DIRECTOR, DIVISION OF INVESTIGATION ;
There 4s returned herewith voucher in favor of the
Fair Oaks Garage, Chicago, Illinois, in the amount of $13.53
covering storage charges, etc., on Ford car taken into custody
by the Division of Investigation alleged to have been owned by
a fugitive Verne C. Miller,
The voucher indicates that the car was abandoned by
Mr. Miller. In view thereof you are kindly requested to advise.
this office as to whether the car was the personal property
of Mr. Miller or was seized beceuse of a violation of the
Netional Motor Vehicle Theft Act. If the car was the personal
property of Mr. Miller it would appear thet the storage charges
should be paid by him. If the car was seiged because of a vio-
lation of the Dyer Act storage charges prior to the seizure
cannot be borne by the Government. In connection with the charge
for towing attention in respectfully invited to the fact that
the charge appears to be excessive, There is also a charge of
$2.00 for making one key for the car. It is understood that
keys may be obtained from any Ford service etation or agency
for approximately 259.
