Miss Ida Cook, Concordia, Kansas, ‘again observed the photo-
graphs of Karpis end Barsxer end advised she Was still convinced that they
were two of the robberée
_ John Wilcox, Concordia, Kansas, an employee of the Cloud County
Bank advised that on September 2, 1922 he registered at the Nicollette Rotel,
Minneapolis, with Charles Eunt, upon instructions from W. S. Gordon, a
representative of the Burns Detective Agency, whose headquarters is either
in St. Paul or Minneapolis, and later went to a suite of rooms at the Ryan
Hotel where they were communicated with by a representative of the bond |
holders by telephone; that Gordon was with them in the Ryan Hotel. He stated
that the three of them went to a benk and secured the $15,000.00 to redeem
the bonds and that he and Eunt were instructed to notice no one upon leaving
the bank, but he did observe a man in e large car who looked them over and
then hurried awaye os .
He stated helf of the bonds were delivered ¢ to him at the -
Ryan | Hotel and half at the Nicollette Hotel by Gordon. -
a He stated he endeavored to secure addi tional ‘information -
trom Gordon but was unsuccessful, although in conversation with other Burns‘
detectives he heard Gordon mention Bear Leke, Minnesota, and was of the opinic
that the holders of the stolen bonés were at that place, although Gordon state
‘he obtained the bonds throuch a man who was about six miles away from the .
actual thieves.
He stated that it was his understanding that the Burns Detectir
Agency at Kansas City, Missouri, first made contact with the representatives
of the gang at Ft. Scott, Kanses, thoush a man by the name of O'Neal, who is
either a bond broker or lawyer; that O'Neal was arrested at Ft. Scott, Kensss,
by the Burns people as it waa thought he had some of the bonds, and shortly
thereafter definite negotiations were begun for the return of the donds.
Wilcox further stated that Smith, the Tulsa lawyer who wes
supposed to represent Bailey at Ft. Scott, Kansas, doublecrossed Karpis
end Barzer on the boné deal and was leter murdered. Wilcox was indefinite
