In a conversation with Mr. Gilbert Mecham, U.S.
Marshal at this city, today, he, in discussing matters in
general made known that he delivered teon onion, who was 0
sentenced in U.2,. District Court, Salt Lake City, Utah, upon
pleading guilty to a charge of post office robbery, to serve
33 yeere in the U.S, Fenitentiary at Leavenworth, Kansas,
to the U.S, Fenitentiary at Leavenworth, Kansas, on or ebout
December 20, 1933,

Leon Epmier was arrested at this city by the local
7. police with an associste named GeorgetKerr who was under
a indictment at St. Faul, or winneapolis, Minn., on a post office
a robbery, in which rubvery Cus }Schaeffer has been indicted.
_ It also appears that Gus Schaeffer was indicted at Salt Lake
ff City, Utah, for a post office robbery, together with Epmier,
Kerr, and othera,
>) Mr. Mecham stated that on the trip to the U.S.
Penitentiary at Leavenworth, Kansas, Epmier was talkative, and
steted, among other things, that he knew who was responsible
for what is known as the fValentine Vassacre”™, which took place
at Chicago, I1l1., and it “is believed by the U.S. Marshal that
Epmier could furnish information of vaiue in the "Kansas City
Nassacre” and in the Hamm kidnaping, if he was so inclined,
Vr, Mecham believes that Epmier would probably help the Government
in these matters if he was appreached properly, since he is in
fear of the Toughy mob and others, since it 1s known to these
gangsters, and his past gangster associates, that he was. ‘one
of the Covernment informants in clearing up numercus pest an ;
