protest the trial. These individuals were peaceful and
there were no incidents or arrests. Thc protestors dis-
persed after about an hour, and some of them entered the
courtroom where they peacefully obcservec the procecdings.

Students for a Democratic Society (SDS)
was founded during June, 19562. at Port
Huron, Michigan, and in the 1660's
functioned as the leading New Left campus-
based student organization in the United
States. From a stance of "paiticipatory
democracy, " the SDS moved to c radical-
revolutionary position. It mc intained a
national office at 1608 West Madison Street,
Chicago. Illinois, until Feorvary, 1970.
Internal factionalism durin: 1969 produced
thre: main factions Weatherran, Revolutionary
Youth Movement (RYH) and Workcr Student
Alliance (WSA). The Weathermen and RYH no
loner consider themselves associated with
the GDS. The WSK faction esniinues to use
the name SDs.
