Cuba, January 3-15, 1966. Among those resolutions were
resolutions to hold. weeks: of solidarity with Vietnam and the -
Dominican Republic.
. The PCM-PPS- _sponsored Week of Solidarity with
Vietnam was held in Mexico ‘March 12-20, 1966. About 4,000
to 5,000 individuals representing communist-oriented groups |
in Mexico participated in’a demonstration on March 17, 1966,
in support ‘of the Week of Solidarity with Vdétnam. They 1
marched along a predesignated route shouting anti-United
States statements and carrying signs eritical of the United
States policies in Vietnam. Demonstrators’ also burned two
simulated flags of the United States. Police. officers,
-, however, maintained order, and the demonstrators were not
“permitted near the United ‘States Embassy in Mexico City.
The Week of Solidarity with the Dominican Republic _
. was scheduled for April 24-30,.1966. Because of a conflict
'.petween the PCM and the National Liberation Movement CMLN )
’- over the Mexican delegates to -the First Tri-Continental Con- + -
ference, neither the PCM nor, the PPS supported the Week of .
Solidarity, with the Dominican. Republic, _Activities during
that week were directed. by the MLN, and little enthusiastic . “
Public. response was elicited by the MLN.
. The PCM leadership planned in November 1965 to re-.
. organize ‘the National Central of Democratic Students (CNED).
, A constituent congress: of. the, CNED was held in April 1966,
‘and leaders of: the PCM youth organization, -the Communist
Youth of:Mexico (JCM), were elected to offices of. leadership
in the CNED, including that of: president,’ The CNED claims
to have 75, 600 student supporters throughout Mexico. It. -
’ quickly tested its strength by calling an anti-United States,
- pro-Cuban demonstration on June 10, 1966, at Mexico, DF.
. About 2,000 students, including four pusloads from UNAM and’
“one - pbusioad from the "National Polytechnic Institute,
responded to the call. Police, however, | aspersed all at~ “

_ Because of the recent reorganization of the CNED,
it is too early to predict the degree of control the PCM
will. maintain over its activities. It is expected, however,
