CG 87-40596 87-41572 87-41578 b Investigation | determined that on 4/17/74, a Hammond Company, San Antonio, Texas, salesman's hotel room in Dallas, Texas, was burglarized of a quantity of an undetermined amount of jewelry. Portions of this jewelry would bear trade nanie "princess" and tags with the initials "BH". Tuvestigation determined that on 2/14-1: ne hotel room of the entertainer LEE LIRERACE was burglarized of jewelry amounting to $24,065, including a Tiffany platinum pocket watch encrusted with diamonds. USA's Strike Force, NDI, Chicago, Illinois, contacted and furnished above information. An affidavit in support ° of a Title 1IX application was forwarded to the Department of Tustiece on S/40/74, On 4/2/74, the Attorgey Genetal authovized the Laplesentation cf the Pirlo LII apolication concerning the Universal Gem and Jewelry Company, Chicage, Illinois, and the U.S. District Judge, NDI, Chicago, Tljinois, issued the court order for this implenentation on 4/3/74, Chicago Cifice was partially operational as Of 4/4/74, but not Lully Operational until evening of 4/3/74. On 4/17/74, a conversation was monitored between On 4/17/74, after contact with the USA's Office, an authorized search warrant and complaint were filed before the U.S. Magistrate, Chicago, Illinois, for a search af LEWIN's premises at 5 North Wabash and for the arrest of LEVI for violation of Title 18, Section 2315, use, The search and arrest warrants were uxecuted on the evening ef 4/AUT/74, at LEWIN's place of business, The resuiting search located the platinum pocket watch with the letter "ZL" encrusted with and surrounded by diamonds, as well as numerous trays of rings believed identifiable with the instant Hammond loss.
