The Octuber 19, 1948, issue ot the "Daily Worker®
etated that Liliian Heliman was one of the signers of @ statenant
issuei by the National Council of the Arts, Sciences and
al Professions which backed the cendidacy of Henry Wallace.

Tt was atated in the February 22. 1949, fesue of
the "Daily Worker" that Lillian Hellman was a member of the
Program Comittee and a sponsor of the Cultural and Scicntifie
Conference for World Peace to be held March 25 and 27, 1949, and
sponsored by the National Council . of the Arts, Sefences and
Professions. A reliable source stated that some persons were
eritical of the inclusion of hiss Hellaan as a founding sponsor
of this conference and they advised Harlow Shapley, National
Vice-Chairman of the Progressive Citisens of Averica, that
Hellman was a ecerd-sc :rrying Communi at and would nitimately

The May 1 1950, issue of the "Daily Worker” stated
that Lillian K 11 an was one of the speakers at a two-day
eonvention held by the Mationel Council of the Arts, Sciences
and Professions at the Hotel Capitol in Kew York City.
