1. In complience with FS Regulation 200-4, subject "Unidentified
Piying Objects" dated 2 November 1948, in reference to letter, Headquarters,
DSAP, subject: “Reporting of Information on ‘Pilying Dises,'", dated
6 February 1946, the following report is submitted.
2. An unidentified flying object was seen over Fort “orth, Texas,
om 18 April 1949, at approximately 2106¢, by lst Lt Rebert A. Francis,
who ealled it to the attention of Captain Stenley Sorowski. ‘Soth
officers are assigned to the Carswell Flight Service Center, Cerawell
Mir Poree Base, Port Worth, Texas.
3. Subject officers had just returned from a legal flight and
were stending by their aircraft on the flight line. The weather at
time object was sighted reported by Carswell Air Force Base was clear
and visibility of eight miles, Wo photocrephe are available. Object
was round end in the shape of a ball, very silver in color. It was
traveling at a tremendous rate of speed, estimated to be over 1660
miles per hour, altitude was very hard to judge and cannot be estinated
correctly; sewever, object seemed to be clearly visibi¢. Lieutenant
Francis saw the object appear om the horizon in the north nortiwest
direction, it seemed to fly horizontally im the direetion ef south
southeast. It did net appear to burn out, but suddenly disappeared.
Ho sound was heard, ‘The exhaust trail seemed to bs «».-oximately three
times the size of the object and alse was silver in cvier. The exhaust
consisted of silver streaks and ster shaped figares. “he object definitely
did not appear to be a jet or meteor, Its speed was far in oxeess of
any jet speed witnessed by officors. The entire sighting took place
in @ matter of a few seconds. A check of the Carswell Flight Service
‘Light following racks showed no jet airoraft flying im this area 6t
time object was sighted,
