NY 105-6699 CONRRIENTIAL visited by HALCOLM X, leader of the New York Muslim population, tho in his role as a member of the 28th Precinct Community Cou:cil constituted a one man welcoming committee. Tne "Pittebargh Courier", a weekly newsnaper published in Pittsbursi, Pe:msylvania, dated October 1, 1960, New York editiou, contained an article headlined "Malcolm X Explains ‘“et-nour Visit to Cestro at Theresa." Tais article reflected that sutject stated that he went to see CASTRO in his capecity as a member of the 22th Precinct Community Council wnich nad been formed to greet prominent United Nations members who visited Harlem. This article Sfurtner refiected that subject denied any connection with CASTRO, and subJect also stated, according to the article: "Pvemier CASTRO has also come out against lynching, which is also more than EISENYOWER has done. CASTRO has also taken a more o>2n stand for civil rights for black Cubans. He wants 7 see CASTRO as a Muslin," Earlier in the article, subject was quoted as Baying: "FIDEL CASTRO nas denounced racial discrimination in Cuba which is more than Puesident EISENHOWER las done here in America." E This same "Pittsburgh Courier" in their New York a edition dated October 15, 1960, contained an article which reflected that suoject had tendered a bitter resignation [from : membership: on the Welcoming Committee of the 26th Precinct Community Council, which committee had been designated by the 28th Precinct of the New York City Police Department to welcome ruling heads of state to Harlem during the General Assembly session of the United Nations for tre purpore of avoidins any embarrassing incidents. - ?0 -« CONPSRENTIAL \
