why oe lee a ae NY 105-8999 Virginia North Carolina South Carolina The December 31, 1950, edition of the "New Jersey Herald News" contained an article datelined Birmingham, Alabama, which reflected that subject was touring the South and had spoken in Birminzham, and had also spo!lren at the NOI Mosque in New Orleans, Louisiana, and at Pensacola and Tampa, Florida, The "New Crusader", a weekly newspaper published in Chicago, Illinois, conva-ned an article in their December 31, 1960, issue datelined Birmingham, Alabama, and captioned, “Malcolm X Hits 'Tom! Preachers." ‘The article stated that in speeches throughout the South, subject has "charged repeatedly that Negro preachers are making ‘religious cowards! of the oppressed black masses by preaching a cospel of tnon violence and peaceful suffering' in the face of increasing white hostility and attacks," This article indicated that subject had visited Birmingham, Alabama, Tampa and Pensacola, Florida, The "New Jersey Herdéd News", in their January 7, 1961, edition, contained an article under the headline, "Dixie Negro Will Revolt", and "Malcolm X Forsees Southern Negro Rebellion in 1961." The article, which was datelined Newark, New Jersey, reflected that subject, who had just returned from an extended tour of the deep South, visited the paper's office and stated that 1961 may witness a violent climax to the South's continuing racial problem, He described the Sout as a “tinderbox “ about to explode" and predicted that “this may be the year in which the young Southern Negro, forced to the wall, is going to hit back, and hit back hard} -~13-
