Molotov:Bombs Fire ire

- eR ee Re --
The home of Malcolm X, the black na-
tidtanEt feader, was seriously
early yesterday by a fire that apparently '
was started by two Molotov cocktails.
Makolm, his wife and his four young
daughters al] were in the house at the tims -
of the fire but escaped uninjured. The |
house is at 23-11 $7th St in East Mim-
hurst, Queens. i
Police and Fire Department investiga-
tors thought that the fire was started in
the living room by Molotov cocktalls—
bottles of burning gasocline—that were
thrown through a front window. Along :
with other glass fragments, they found |
an intact bottle neck containing # rag:
and bearing drops of a liquid thought to.
» be gasoline.
AWAKENED
Malcolm told the police he was awak-: -
ened by a noise, probably shattering glass,”
at about 2:30 a.m. He awakened his wife:
and children and led them to safety, out.
the back of the house, he sald. ' j
Neither Malcolm nor the police would
speculate yesterday about who threw the
fire bombs, but Malcolm said: “I intend)
to point out to the people of New York.
who I think is behind this and what will’
develop from it, if something 4s not done
about it," he agid,
Malcolm ia a defector from the Black
Muslims, and has been at odds with them
for months. Aside from their doctrinal
differences, the Muslims claim that they

“Joseph xX, who described himself as a

day and told reporters: |
"We own this place, man. He was going
to be evicted tomorrow. We have money
tied up here. We have to hear about it on
the radio. He didn’t even give us the cour-
" of a phone call.”
THE DAMAGE -
The house is a one-story brick. The
*’ damage to the exterior of the buiiding ap-
peared to be slight, but several rooms were
eharred inside, and there was extensive
