This suspicion was based on the fact that a series of these robberies was conducted by a gang of Chicanoes who seemed to be working in an organization. There were rumors attributing these robberies to the “Mexican Mafia although no positive evidence linking the two was ever ~ developed. CEES «cv: soc that his files showed the Mexican Mafia to be centered in East Los Angeles inasmuch. as this is an area largely inhabited by the Chicano ‘, Community and is the area to which Chicano inmates retuni after being paroled from California prisons. The Mexican Mafla is suspected of being involved-in specialized type of crime such as that involving violence as in lone sharking, Narcotics, etc, There are currently about six unsolved murders in the ast Los Angeles area which could be the _ ,result of threats let: out by inmates in California prisons.
