Since his tenure as Sheriff of Weshobe County, RAINEY
has been the subject of mmerous civil rights complaints, tye
that resulted in indictments by a Federal ( Grand Jury at Biloxi,
Mississippi, which convened in September and October, 1964.
Asp a result of these indictments, RAINEY was arrested
on October 3, 1964, for violation of Title 18, Section 242 and
Section 371, U. 8S. Code, and was taken before the U, 8, Commissioner
at Meridian, Mississippi, and released on $2,000 bond. RAINEY
declined to make any s fement at that time.
