b|< Lm 77 spoke on the value of racial up-lift and stressed the
good that the Grand Sheik was doing in bringing such knowledge
of ths Moorish teachings to them and that they no longer have to
think of themselves as being people unrespected by other races
because they have no flag. He pointed out that they no longer
had to consider themselves es Colored Americans ar Negro Americans,
but rather as Moorish Americans because according to dictimary,
the ward ‘Colored’ mans dye, tinted, painted, or dipped, and the
word ‘Negro! was a slave word, which had no meaning. He also ax-
pressed the economic valus, inasmch as the status of the people
will change after the war. He pointed out that it would be best
for the Moorish Americans to prepare themselves for the change now
and expressed his gratefulness for the new mythical teachings of
the Grand Sheik. He deplored conditions of the people, wir have
not been aroused by this emergency (meaning that Colored people
should take advantage of present world conditions).
The next speaker was Grand Sheik eS). His ‘opening re-
marks were in honor of Allah and the people of Islaum. Ee then
described the Moorish movement as the one which teaches tha peo-
ple not to hate. He indicated that he has been educated in Af-
rica. He explained that there was no such people as Negroes or
Colored people but rather that they should be known as Moorish
Americans, regardless from what part of the globe they originated
from. He went on to state that most people are under the impres-
sion that the Negro never had a flag and that this was a slave
teaching handed down to them because in reality the Moorish flag,
which he displayed, (a flag with a light green background with a
large red star in the center) was the oldest inown flag to civili-
zation and that the African people are the founders or the mother
af all civilizatio. He explained that the Mocrish movement was
entirely patriotic.
Turner went on to state that he was named after Frederick Doug-
las, the great Negro liberator, who told Abraham Lincoln; tif
you do not let these people go, there would rise from among them
their om leaders, who will free them.' Turner went on to explain
that the Negro people in America are still slaves accarding to the
Dred-Sc ott decision, because they are still being lynched in Amer-
ica. He explained that the Negro is being discriminated against
in the Armed Forces. al
