From this point on special agents maintained a close con- tact with the USA's Office in order to receive and handle all investigative requests immediately. Six different meetings were had with the USA at which time information was furnish and discussions were ha On 8/22/73, the AUSA requested that the plaintiffs be identified and their arrest records obtained. On 9/5/73, all information from the Philadelphia FBI files, arrest records and the full’ identification of the plaintiffs was furnished to the AUSA. On 9/7/73, the AUSA, armed with the information. furnished him as mentioned, filed a motion for dismissal of of the suit. In just about three week period from the time it was learned that the suit had been filed, the USA's Office was able to use the information furnished him by the FBI to file his motion of dismissal. On 10/3/73, the U.S. District Court granted the USA's motion. A mere less than three months lapsed from the date the suit was filed, to the date it was successfully defended, with no loss to the Federal Government. The AUSA looked on the matter as a complete victory and expressed his great appre- ciation for the investigation done by the FBI which enable him to bring about a successful defense, In view of all of the above, a tremendous savings was brought about by the team work among the Chicago and Philadelphia FBI Offices and the AUSA. The expeditious handling of the matter, before the minority matter may have been played up by the news media and giving rise to the ori- ination of other similar suite, resulted in a savings of 43,000,000. There ig also an unknown amount of similar suits that might have been filed had the subject suit not have been so resolved. Philadelphia is claiming a savings of $21,500,000 and requests that Chicago be creditdwith the same amount.
