appears on page 160 of the February 5, 1933 edition af "fhe Ration,*
Misa Rukeyser wae reported in 1938 sa being one of tha "John Reed
Club" authors, Thie club haa been described es “a revolutionary organization —
composed of artists and writers in the Uaited States, It was organized by
Conquniste in mesory of the imerican Bolsnevik, John Raed, who was deported

the Committee for the Arte Project in « letter eent out by that Comittee to
newpaper editore on Jenuary ll, 1939, which letter purporta to explain the
. parposs of the Five Arts Gommittes, This letter defands the work of the NPA
Federal Arte Project and atates that the Five arts Committee ie sponsoring a
mags movesant of citizens who are requested to send letters or telegrams of
protest againgt the diseivgel of the 1,526 workers on the Project in New York
City to the President, to Congrassmen, and to the head of the Work Projects

The name of Muriel Rukeyser appeare on a list of menbers of the
League of American Writers in a pamphlet issued by that organization announcing
the Third American Writer's Congress to be held 4n New York City on duns 2-4,
1939. Tne following is an excerpt from this announcamants \ AN
