unfinished business of woman's equality. — - .
Despite ald the talk about isolated gains made by women in recent years, the
actual status of women in the United States has beon declining, rather than advancing
dn the 1950's and '60's, Although more than 46% of American adult wonen now work
outside the home, the overwhelming na jority -- 75% -~ are in routino clerical, sales,
or factory jobs; or they are household workers, cleaning women, hospital attendants...
Sone two-thirds of Negro women workers are in the lowest paid service occupations.
Working women ere becoming increasingly concentrated on the bottom rungs of the job
ladder, N.O.W. is dedicated to reversing this trend, so that pur national life will
be truly fair and truly representative of the best our citizens can offer.
