Lenora Fulant, defeated last year after pecontng the first black Battin tn
run for governor itn New York State, announced she is running for president as a
candidate of the New Alliance Party.
Fulani, who launched her campaign at a news conference outside the United
Nations Wednesday, said she hopes to get her New Alliance Party on the ballots
of 21 states by the end of the year.
; Her supporters hope to garner enough signatures to get on the ballots in all
rs 50 states by early 1988, she said.
‘'! am announcing my candidacy for the presidency of the United States,''
Fulani told a handful of supporters, promising her campaign would ''address the
gillious ef dmericans who seek a profound change in the destructive polictes of
this country.''
Fulani, 37, said her campaign would seek support from both black and white fl
Americans who have seen little difference between both major parties.
''Uhen i( comes time to cast their choices for a president there are only two
choices,'' she said, ‘‘a Démacrat or a Republican whose parties have endorsed
and initiated racial violence from the shores of Tripoli to the streets of
Howard Beach.'' Z

election but hoped noretheiess to have an influence on the political process.
‘'My campaign gresents a serious challenge. Not because I think I will win. I

g ‘Jesse Jackson, who has received strong support in the polls and is expected to
announce his glans to seek the Democratic presidential election.
But she said her campaign will emphasize a ‘'Two Roads Are Better Than One
Approach'' and that Jackson will have her full suggort when he announces.
