The growth of gang influenced
crime in the Salinas Valley
matches a statewide pattern
which sees NF attempting to gain
control in San Jose, Fresno,
Stockton and other Central and

Salinas area. But for the mest
part, the rumors are un-
corroborated by hard facts. __
Monterey County Asst. Dist.
Atty. Dean Flippo acknowledges
that “there is possible gang
activity in our area — in the
Salinas-county area — and the
information that we are
receiving, again uncorroborated,
is that the gangs are involved in
various crimes. I don’t think
we've received any information -
thal there's a war going on
between rival gangs in the
Salinas area."
Letters received by the

on the streets. One woman wrote,

that comes through and we get an
awful lot of information about an

gangs, but I don't think we can
