Tulsa, Oklehoma, has received from the Pardon Attorney of this .
Department the application of Willies Kmale for pardon, fale is
presently serving a life sentence fu the United States Penitentiary
at Leavenworth, Kansas, fer the erime of murder on the Osage Indian

The Ceage Indian sountry lies in the Osage Bille, situated
the northeastern part of Oklahoea, a beautiful roliing country
vered with tall, green limestone grass, and eonsidered the finest
eattle srastn« eountry in the world. “fhe Odese Indian heservatios,
whieh is identical with Osage County,’-Oklahoma, eonsists of @ million -
and a half acres of Indian allotted land, is the largest county in
the State, being larger in area than the entire State of Deleware.
It is bounded on the southwest by the Arkensas River, and reaches
from fulea, Oklahoes, om the south to Ponce City on the north, &
distance of approximately sixty miles. It is alao sixty miles in
width at its widest point. To give an additional idea of its
immensity, in 1932 it contained over sixteen hundred public schools.

This reservation was aequired by the Cherokee Treaty fron
the Cherokee Indians July 9, 1866. The county seat at the time of
the events related was Pawhuska, having « population of sight
thousand, r tows and villages in the sounty are Fairfax, :
Crevwhs rse, Ronisy, Wyness, Pershing, Siriatask and Welezoney. ‘
