The July 8, 1953 issue of the "Hartford Courant", a daily’: * ° newspaper published in Hartford, Connecticut, contained an ~~. article which reflected that the subject appeared before the Senate Investigations Committee headed by Senator Joseph R.- se wr bie we a ew ee tee ee SL Me Carthy. Mhile before this Committee, the subject stated she had “never heard anybody anywhere under any circumstances” ° advocate overthrow of the United States Government by force ..-:. or violence. The subject stated she does not think the = _ Communist Party if dedicated to that aim. a wo The subject testified before the Committee of Government _ Operations of the United States Senate on July 7, 1953, at. --which time Senator Me Carthy asked,---——-----_~- +--+} - - 4 mo a a "IT am asking you the simple question, dO = &- >) you feel that if you gave us an honest, 9°70 07 truthful answer as to whether you are @ 9 22-0 =o” Communist today, that honest, truthful answer would tend to incriminate you?"
