0 | ovember 13, 1956, Bpoke at the NCASF “/b HY 100-25857 CON [AL American-Soviet Friendship (NGASF) was held at 135 West 70th Street, New York City, avised that PAUL ROBESON was in attendance and in a speech described the rise of the Negro from slavery and pointéd out that their struggle for rights was aided by the dictators of Socialism as practiced in the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (9SSR), He called ‘for peaceful co-existence and friendship between all peoples. -rally, mentioned above, during which he paid tribute to the NCASF, ROBESON stated that we must live with war and the question of full citizenship for the Negroes must be resolved. ROBESON potnted out the struggle of the Negro todey was brought forth in the October, 1917, Revolution as a resylt of which the Negro peoples know their struggles are possible because of the Soviet struggle. The "Daily Worker" issue of November 15, 1956, page 5, contained an editorial entitled “They Want No Peace’. This editorial concerned demonstrations against persons attending a rally of the NCASF held the waek before. In part this editorial read, "There is more than passing significance in the fact that one of the persons reviled and physically threatened by the demonstrators was Paul Robeson, famed at home and abroard as a symbol both of the achievements of the Negro people and of the repressions they still suffer. Paul Robeson has never hidden his admiration for the Soviet Union ~ the land where he first found color to be no bar to equality nor his belief in the ned d for American-Soviet cooperation for world peace," Cc.
