Transmit the following message via Sean ens (Priority or Method af Wailing) From SAC, NEWARK (1100-33129) To: DIRECTOR, FBI CINAL The Informant advised that the details of oo ROBESON's itinerary during his three-day visit to New af Jersey were purposely withheld from MARTHA STONE and ww EMANUEL CANTOR, Essex County CP Organizer, The Informant . | noted that the program arranged by THOMPSON and his associates - included a tour of Negro taverns and night clubs in the Newark area on Friday evening, 7/27/56; appesrance at a , ok picnic of meat-packing plant workers sponsored by the “eed United Packinghouse Workers Union, on Saturday, 7/28/56; we! attendance at church services in a Negro church on Sunday morning, 7/29/56; and appearance at a public barbecue that sunday afternoon at ERNEST THOMPSON's home in Orange, N.J, The Informant noted that THOMPSON and his associates planned’ ~ only to make efforts to have a few white persons attend the at barbecue and not any of the other activities. . me Joformant advised that at a €P club meeting \ 7 i EMANUEL CANTOR told the members that ROBESON was visiting the Newark area and that 4 he was doing ali that he could to make the visit successful. CANTOR stated that while he did not have complete information a4 on ROBESON's plans, it was his opinion that more organization in advance should have been made for such an important person. CANTOR stated that the purpose of ROBESON's visit was to raise ; funds for his passport fight. The Informant noted that one of oi the club members said he thought ROBESON's visit was to be “4 casual in nature and that ROBESON was not secking funds for his 4 passport fight. CANTOR stated that he had indirectly contacted : ERNEST THOMPSON and was sure that ROBESON's visit was for political purposes.
