“PAUL ROBESON, who had been barred for eight years from
leaving the country because he refused to sign a nonCommunist
affidavit for a passport, left for London yesterday to start a
series of concerts.
"The singer received his passport recently after the x
Supreme Court had invalidated the State Department's requirement
for the affidavit. Departing from New York International Airport
at Idlewild, Queens, Mr, ROBESON said he would give concerts
Europe, including Czechoslovakia and the Soviet Union.
"Mr, ROBESON was asked if he planned to stay abroad. He
replied: 'This is my land. My grandfather and father were born
here, too, and I don"t plan to leave it.'"
