passport, which was cancelled in 1950, reinstated and if
that action is forthcoming, he will accept invitations
from euch British composers as RALPH VAUGHN WILLIAMS and
BENJAMIN BRITTEN to concertise extensively in Great ~_ _
Britain. An articlé which appeared in the Oregon Journal -
on March 19, 1958, under the byline of MART me
Journal music editor, was captioned "Botsford Auditorium
jammed for ROBESON," The article referred to a spokesman
for the Focua Club, the organization of Reed atudents
which had sponsored PAUL ROBESON's appearance, as having
stated it was the largest audience attending a concert in
the auditorium, there being more than 1,000 in attendance.
The article noted that the subject's “warm outgoing nature
obviously struck a responsive chord in the hearts of hie
listeners", further noting that "ROBESON's request to be — --- ---
recognized purely a6 an artist apparently has been sompletely
granted.” 7

organization sponsoring the concert, and tell them they were
charging too much.
