COMMITTEE FOR THE PROTECTION OF OREGON'S FOREIGN BORN
According to Portland Confidential Informants, the
COMMITTEE FOR THE PROTECTION OF OREGON'S FOREIGN BORN, known
in its earlier stages as the CITIZENS COMMITTEE FOR A CIVIL
RIGHTS ORDINANCE and as COMMITTEE TO DEFEND FOUR OF OREGON'S
FOREIGN BORN, has been dominated during its entire existence,
August, 1949, to date by past and present COMMUNIST PARTY
membera.
A Portland Confidential Informant reported that a
letter dated April 9, 1957, by COMMITTEE FOR THE PROTECTION
OF OREGON'S FOREIGN BORN secretary, MARTINA CURL, described
the organization "as an independent defense committee ....... ---~—--
organized about seven years ago to help those in Oregon, who,
when arrested and facing deportation for exercising the very
rights they came to the United States seeking, were confused and
financially unable to defend themselves." Portland Confidential
Informants have advised the COMMITTEE FOR THE PROTECTION OF
OREGON'S FOREIGN BORN is currently active in Portland, Oregon,
holding regular meetings and has sponsored a number of fund
raising affairs during the past ycar.
