. oe APPENDIX BY 100-25857 Oo U.S. FESTIVAL COMMITTEE . (SEVENTH WORLD YOUTH FESTIVAL) In August 4, 1958, a confidential source made available a background statement on the 7th World Youth Festival, distributed by a U,S. Festival committee then in the process of organization in New York City. This statement sets forth that the Festival idea is supported by the World Federation cf Democratic Youth (cited as a Communist organization in the House Committee on Un-American Activities (HCUA) Guide to Subversive Organizations and Publications, anuary 2, 1957, page 94), with headquarters in Budapest, Hungary and the International Union of Students (cited aa a Communist organization in the HCUA Guide, above, on page 48 with headquarters in Prague, Czechoslovakia. It was decided to hold the 7th World Youth Festival in Vienna, Austria during the summer of 1959. in Tso i a ae This source advised in April 1959, that the U.S. 2 a. Festival Committee is located at 246 Fifth Avenue, New York a City, and is still active, ae The statement made available by the above source ee on August 4, 1958, sets forth that "The Festival has as its aim the desire to promote understanding and friendly cooperation between the youth ef nations of the world." Another gource on October 3, 1958, made available information concerning a Regional Youth Conference of the Communist Party, USA, held in New York City on September 27, 1958. The Youth Festival to be held in Vienna was discussed and those attending were urged to get delegates to attend this Festival and to help raise money to defray delegates expenses. ] fu ah |
