BEVIEN deseo 00: NY . | | 5-27 LO Remylet 4/13/60, On 5/24/60 Mr. WALTER M, WALSH, American Consul, United States Embassy, London, advised that PAUL ROBESON appeared at the Embassy to make application for a new passport and while at the Embassy submitted an affidavit concerning his travel in August, 1959, to Hungary. It is noted that Hungary is an area prohibited to American travelers except by special per- mission, ROBESON's statement is contained in memorandum the original and four copies of which are enclosed, This affidavit was witnessed by Mr. WALSH on May 17, 1960, w ince wishe © remain in the United Kingdom until September, 1960, this also forced him to appear at the American Embassy to make application for his pass- ‘| port and to answer quesYions the State Department wished to } ask him about his travel to Hungary.
