NY 100~25857 The October 6, 1960 issue of "L'Humanite", daily organ of the French Communist Party, contained an article, datelined October 5, 1960, at Berlin, as Lollows: "PAUL ROBESON today received the degree of Doctor Honoris Causa from Humboldt University in Eest Berlin. The great singer is presently in East Berlin, where he will give several concerts during the ‘Cultural Week! organized in honor of the llth . anniversary of the proclamation of the ‘Democratic German Republic! on October 7." "The Worker”, an East Coast Communist weekly newspaper, in its edition of November 6, 19650, on page 5, column 1, contained an article captioned “Democratic Germany Honors ROBESON", commenting on the honoring of PAUL ROBESON in Berlin on the occasion af the eleventh anniversary of the founding of the German Democratic Republic, At a press conference, when ROBESON was asked about his immediate plans, ROBESON announced that he was about toleave for a six weeks concert tour in Australia, that toward the end of the year he hoped to make an extended trip to Africa and that after that he would go to Cuba, The October 14, 1960 edition of the East German English- ~language propaganda pamphiet "German Democratic Report" also carried an article on ROBESON's visit to East Berlin, referring to the honors afforded him and noted that he ended his vistt there on October 7, 1959 when he entertained the crowds gathering in East Berlin's Marx-Engels Square celebrating the Jith anniversary of the German Democratic Republic.
