concerning PAUL ROBESON 's | concerts in Auckland, New Zealand:

Welcome was tendered to ROBESON during his stay in Auckland,
- although the Mayor, D. M. ROBINSON, did receive him and
. his wife at a private morning tea at the Mayor's residence.
Aucklanders studiously refrained from commenting to the
Principal Officer and Vice Cdnsul about ROBESON's early
outburst to the press or his political leanings, No
inguiries of any kind were redeived by the Consulate
regarding ROBESON's status as an American citizen or
the circumstances under which he was criginally denied
a passport by the Department,
