Fn = ALSO IX THE USA Appa, ; RO=LSON continued: "Meanwhile also in the USA wide circles have ceased to fear a visit of my concerts. I have asain conavered the American mublic. This is not only important to mvself, bet likewise to numerous colored artists who were oppressed by any means. <All had to be shown that those have lost who wanted to silence me. However, I am standing on my feet again and sing." i* ROFPSON concluded his report as follows: "In England and Scotland the public welcomed me like a good acquaintance. I thank my success in Ingiand partiy to my appearance in the Shakespeare hemorial Theater in Stratford-on-kavon (sic). Here Y had to accept the role of Othello. To be sure, many Americans came to Stratford. They were apnarently embarrassed that an American actor, who is not permitted to avpear in America, plays in Enoland; and then not only on an ordinary stage, but on the stace of the Shakespeare Theater, which has the best actors of various Enolish-speaking countries at its disposal. Theré is mo oreater honor for an actor than io apvear there, "The role of Othello is the biggest one which IT played as an actor. for the rest of my life I want to use my energies completely for the strucsle for Africa's freedom, for the freedom of the American KNeqroes and of the Australian aboriginal population, for the freedom of all who suffer from oppression," when we said qood-by to each other, I feit in the firm handshake of this wonderfvl man a confir- mation of his words. + Picture of PAUL ROPESON by GURKOW.' = ° 07 at ek SN, Ae MINER MMT
