Legion has adopted a resolution requesting all posts of the American Legion
to remain away from the ROBESON meetin: and not to participate officially
or otherwise in any demonstration in connection with it. Copies of this
resolution have been sent to other civic and patriotic organizations in the
area With a suggestion that they pass a similar resolution and ‘Similarly

-{composed of various civic and patriotic organizations in the los Angeles
area) held a press conference on September 21, 1949,/at which time they
alsc adopted a policy of ignoring the ROBESON meetifg entirely.
On September 19, 1949 after MYRA TANNERNVEISS, local Chairman
of the Socialist Workers Party had announced through the circulation of
letters in the city of Los Angeles that an army of 3,000 picked men would
serve as a "defense guard" for the ROBESON meeting, the Los Angeles City
Council passed a unanimous resolution recommending that the ROBESON concert
be "ignored with a monumental silence and contempt". The City Council, :
according to a news article appearing in the Los Angeles Examiner on September
19, 1949 termed the concert a "Communist trap of mod violence",
Unless advised to the contrary by the Bureau, efforts will be
made to have reliable confidential informants present at the meeting; however,
no Special Agents will attend the meeting or otherwise be present in the ..-
immediate vicinity.
The Bureau will be advised of any important developments in
