The Rew York "Daily Mirror", issue of August 29, 19U9, ¢ contained
an article entitled "ROBESON? He Asked for it."
The above article reported that ROBESON rose to prominence as a
singer but that he is no longer primarily an artist. “He is first and
foremost an apologist and propagandist for the Soviet Union and for
Coomund am. He loves Soviet Russia above his own country.*
The article further reflected that war veterans had “denonstrated —
agsinst ROBESON on August 27 and had clashed with ROBESON'S ‘supporters.

"but ROBESON has been asking for it, the veterans had as much right to
Snonstrate as the Communists who dat ly attempt to mock Judge MEDIKA'S
ourt. More right.* ’

Runs Amuck at ROBESON'S Concert." PAUL ROBESON had been scheduled to sing
at Lakeland Acres on August 27, just outside Peekskill, New York. This —
concert had been put on by ROBESON for the benefit of the Harlem Chapter
of the Civil Rights Congress and had been sponsored by People's Artists ;
Inc., #@ cultoral organi zation.
The above article further reported that "a mob of 300 vandals,
| tnflamed by the newspapers and official hysteria, ambushed an outdoor .
concert where PAUL ROBESON was to sing." In this article it was charged
OE the mob had burned a Klan cross and had assaulted hundreds of men,
;women and children.
