By letter dated 1/14/46, Alfred Kohlberg (97-2660) for- warded various documents concerning the alleged communist control of the Institute of Pacific Relations. In his letter Kohlberg stated that in 1944, Agnes Smedley, a propagandist for the Chinese CP, had published a statement that he was in the pay of the Chinese Government and the story was spread so that he had been asked about it by some of his friends, including Pearl Buck.
