DETAILS :
On the morning of January 28, 1954, Robert Francis
Xennedy called the Director's Offtce and adutsed that he would
like to talk over some personal matters with the Director.

On September 14, 1951, we opened a Departmental
applicant case on Robert Francte“Kennedy, who was applying
Jor a position of attorney in the Criminal Division. Back-
ground information furnished indicated he was_born in Boston,
Massachusetts, on November 20, 1925, and attended Harvard
niversity, Bates College,and received his law degree from
the Virginia Law School tn 1951, He served itn the United
States Navy from 1944 to 1946. Investigation tn this case
failed to reflect any derogatory information concerning
Kennedy, and all persons tnterviewed recommended him very

An invitatton postmarked May 19, 1950, from Mr. and
rs. George Skakel and acdressed to Mr. and ¥rs. J. Edgar Hoover
requested the honor of the Director's presence at the marrtage
of their daughter Ethel to Robert Francis Kennedy on Saturday,
June 17, tn Greenwich, Connecticut. This invitation was declined.

A transcript of the hearings before the Permanent
Subcommittee on Investigations of the Committee on Government
Operations in the United States held on May 4 and 20, 1953,
reflects that Robert F. Kennedy, assistant counsel for that
committee, gave considerable testimony regarding ships carry-
ing cargo to Communist Chine in 1952. (62-98810-109) —

30, 1953, goes into considerable detail about the agreément
that Senator McCarthy had worked out with Greek shipowners
not to transport goods to Communist China. The press relecse
