The investigations which the Committee under the Chairmanship of Senator John McClellan have conducted have been effective and in the public interest. From the time the Hobbs Act (under which labor extortion is prosecuted) was enacted in July, 2946, until January, 1953, only three indictments were returned. From January, 1953 to date, the Departmental records show that 114 labor racketeers were convicted.
