furnished the following synopsis of captioned program:

Senator Keating asked the Attorney General whether he still thinks
it is necessary or desirable to create a National Crime Commission. Attorney i
General Kennedy replied that at one time he had felt that it was necessary \
because of gangster penetration and the growth of organized crime. Mr. Kennedy ~
| added that he now feels the Department is able to accomplish many of the things
.
which he had thought should be done through a National Crime Commission.
Mr. Keating asked the Attorney General if he was pressing for legislation to ~
create a National Crime Commission. Mr. Kennedy said he was not because
he thinks the Department can accomplish these things administratively within YY
the Department. He said he was not opposed to it, but he is not as strong for it t\5
as he was in the past. .

Senator Keat ting asked whether the Atto orney General adv ocated any
other legislation to deal with organized crime. Mr. Kennedy replied that he 2
thinks there should be legislation to cover the transmission of gambling informatjor
across state Hines so as to permit the Federal Bureau of Investigation to come ¥
into areas where they had not been permitted to in the past. vt { 8
Senator Keating mentioned that there have been rumors that there
has been some rift or difficulty between the Attorney General and J, Edgar Hoover.
Mr. Kennedy replied that there is certainly nothing to to it; that he thinks their $
| relationship is of the best and they get along extremely well, Mr. Kennedy said>
he sees eye to eye with the Director on all of the matters and that he has a great
deal of admiration for him. Mr. Kennedy stated that the Director has made many
major contributions and that he hopes that he will continue to have a long and —
