. Memorandum to Mr. Belmont RE: TRAVEL OF THE ATTORNEY GENERAL } 7. Charter Day Support Committee -- This group is in favor of the President and are going to stage a counter— march. The San Francisco Office has received information. concerning a number of anonymous calls being made indicating various Veterans groups are prepared to take action against individuals demonstrating against the President, even to the extent of using tear gas. Chancellor of the University of California, Edward W. Strong, has issued an order that there should be no gatherings on the University ‘of California Campus at Berkeley which would in any way interfere with the / yCharter Day proceedings. Price reiterated that the contemplated activities of the various groups has been receiving considerable publicity in the newspapers in San Francisco. Secret Service and the local police are fully cognizant.
