The "Datly Worker" dated February 12, 1937, con~
teined an article entitled "Nine Resign From Trotsky
‘Defense’, which stated that nine members had resigned
from the American Committee for the Defense of LEON
TROTSKY, according to an announcement that they issued
on behalf of the 60 Liberale who.signed the open letter
to American Liberals protesting against the use of the
Committee for political purposes. The open letter de-
¢lared that while the Trotaky Defense Committee was
ostensibly formed in defense of certain principlea of
Civil Ktberties, its present activities could’ only be -
interpreted as “political intervention in the .inter-
national affairs of the Soviet Union with hostile intent",
