a The "Bvening Star," Washington, DeC., on 3-6-56,
carried an article entitled: "Civil Rights Group Hears Bitter
Scott-Butler Clash." The article diacusaed the neeting of
the "Assembly for Civil Rights" held the previous evening
at the Willard Hotel, Washington, D.C. It was noted that
the Assembiy had been in session since Sunday, when NAACP
leader, Roy Wilkins, called upon congress to "Enact Civil
Rights legislation so that tt would keep pace with advances
made both in the Erecuttve and Judictal branches of the
Governnent." It was also noted in the article that Urs. .
Juantta Mitchell, a Baltimore Negro, had stated that her
delegation "got rude” with Senator Butler, Republican of
Maryland, when they called on him and with Senator Beall
uhom she said "was almost rude to us at first.”
A typedmote was attached the newsparner clipping
advising the Director that Mra, Mitchell was a member of
the delegation which saw him. The director nade the
following pencilled notation regarding Mra. Mitchell:
“and she knows how to be rude! Zz."
