The following references in the file captioned "Nation
of Islam," (NOI) file 25-330971, contain information relative to
the activities of Roy Wilkins during the period May, 1962 through
June, 1963. NOI through the leadership of Elijah Muhammad, the
Messenger of Allah, has affiliates throughout the US, and publishes a
newspaper called "Muhammad Speaks." NOI's teachings stress separation
of thé biack and white race, destruction of the white race, America,
and Christianity by Allah, and non-participation in the white man's
wars. .
Members of NOI attended a rally at which Wilkins was a
speaker, and at one time discussed asking Wilkins to speak at one of
their outdoor rallies. Muhammad stated he would be glad to meet with
Wilkins to discuss their working together on racial problems. On :
occasions officials of NOI thanked Wilkins and other officials of the
NAACP for their love, Sympathy and support of the biack peopie and
called for a united "Black Front to Fight Injustice." NOI leaders
worked to undermine the prestige of Wilkins and other leaders of the
Negro movement, and denounced Wilkins and the NAACP as an "Uncie Tom
leader of an Uncle Tom Association which is led by white folk."

The following references in the file captioned "Narch on
Washington, August 28, 1963," file 157-970, contain information
pertaining to the activities of Roy Wilkins, who was one of the 10
chairmen of the March. This March was advertised as the "March on
Washington for Jobs and Freedom" with National Office in NYC. The i
official call for the March was issued on 7/12/63 by Roy Wilkins, and *
other racial leaders, Wilkins was a member of the March on Washingtor |
Committee and helped make all plans for the NYC group to attend. He ~
also conferred with representatives of other NAACP branches regarding
