"The Washington Evening Star" dated 8/29/66 carried an
article captioned "Black Power Parley To Draw 150 Leaders" by Larry
A. Still. According to the article, Representative Adam C. Powell,
Democrat, NY, stated that 150 representatives of “black organizations"
had been ini taA to Usshineton, D.C on 9/3/66 to 2 slannineg session

for a National Conference on Black Power. Roy Wilkins was among those
invited and was the only major leader who had expressed interest thus
far.

"Contact," in Philadelphia, A transcription of the show indicated that
Tom Snyder, the emcee, made reference to the appearance of Roy Wilkins
and other ‘civil rights leaders on the program "Meet the Press" about
two weeks previously. Snyder asked Everett if he thought Martin
Luther King, Wilkins and Whi tney Young were wrong favoring | integration
