VISIT OF ROY WILKINS, EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, NATIONAL ASSOCIATION FOR THE ADVANCEMENT OF COLORED PEOPLE TO MISSISSIPPI TO PARTICIPATE IN PROTEST MARCH AT CLARKSDALE, MISSISSIPPI, NOVEMBER 22, 1969 Wilkins addressed the group at that location, with particular reference to the decision of the Federal Court in Mississippi, to exclude children from school if they have refused to take achievement tests on which their assignment to particular schools will be based. He cited the need for white and black citizens to resolve this problem because it was his opinion that keeping children from school would not be the solution. He indicated that Negroes whould follow the instructions of their leaders in the current protest - movement at Clarksdale and he pointed out that neither the Negroes nor the whites of Coahoma County were going anywhere and it was important for them to resolve their problems, The group marched back to the First Baptist Church, again led by Aaron Henry, Roy Wilkins, and Ale ‘Waites, who is employed by the NAACP Welfare and Relief Board in Jackson, Mississippt, _ There were no arrests or incidents, Wilkins arrived and departed in a black over green 1968 Plymouth four door sedan, bearing Shelby County, Tennesse ewe yj ieaietiesientt J 22, 1969. ® 4 aa Pe ae Aaron Henry advised on November 23, 1969, that pad he is attempting to secure an appearance of entertainer ork Arethd Franklin for the protest activity of November 29, Aa 1969 cal no definite agreement had been made, _ a See * eS ‘ license KO 7790.
