JULY 16, 1963
RACIAL MATTERS
On July 16, 1963, Mr. Granville Reed, Program
Assistant, National Association for the Advancenent of
Colored People (NAACP), 431 South Dearborn Street, Chicago,
Illinois, advised the Chicago Division, Federal Bureau of
Investigation that he was in receipt on this date of a
postal card addressed to the NAACP, 431 South Dearborn,
Chicago, Illinois. Mr. Reed stated the card arriving in the
morning mail is believed to have been mailed at Chicago,
Illinois although the postmark is not thoroughly legible.
On the reverse of the post card is the following
message:
“ATTENTION!
All N.A.A.C.P. members! .
If your head, Roy Wilkens wants to live beyond
Sat. 7/20 he had better leave the country,
I worn you I make no empty threats! Ke P."
Reed advised that Roy Wilkins is currently in
charge of the NAACP and maintains his residence and office in
New York City. He stated that on July 16, 1963, he had been
in telephonic contact with Wilkins' office at New York but
had determined that Wilkins was not present in the office.
Reed stated that he was unable to ascertain Wilkins' where-
abouts as of the time of that call.
