Possible Racial Violence
Major Urban Areas
80 year old labor and eivil rights leader, recently retired
as president of the Brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porters,
urged militant Negro youths to reject confrontationism
and violence in their struggle for freedom and justice. He
said “we must reject racial separatism and together with the
conviction that one day our nation can cease to be divided wit)
itself, reaffirm our abiding faith in integration. We cannot”
reject these principles without also denying ourselves the
possibility of freedom".

The May 13, 1969, issue of the "New York Post",
a New York City da ly newspaper, on page 2k carried an article
indicating that Roy) Wilkins » Executive Director of the NAACP,
stated "It's not how a black man wears his hair but what he —
has inside his head'|, thereby explaining his» Wilkins', atand
that the demands for\black studies are "a lot of nonsense".
