IC Ji ALLEGED -KIDNAPING b This is to advise that snearcage Courier, a Chicago, Illinois, newspaper on 12-21-63 carried an article alleging that Samtiy—Davis, Jr., the well-known entertainer and associate of Frank Sinatra, Sr., was kidnaped in Las Vegas several years ago by a pair of tough Chicago gangsters. According to this article, Davis was released when told by his kid ers to “forget about any plans you have to wed movie actress Kipg’Novak." The article went on to state that this incident was just disclosed a_ few days ago following the kidnaping of Frank Sinatra, Jr. eae The article states that this incident was known by a few of Sammy Davis, Jr.'s close associates but that Davis did not , ;discuss/it at the time. The article alleges that Broadway Columnist Ke Frankyferrell leaked this item a few days ago and that it was not / \knowhK what action Federal authorities might take in regard to this matter. It is reported that this kidnaping was arranged by certain — people in show business as a "friendly kidnaping" to convince Davis / - not to marry Kim Novak. The article concluded by alleging that a “death note" was left in Davis' dressing room at a benefit show in ¥T Santa Monica, California, within the past week. ; { No information was located in Bureau files concerning the {_ . above-mentioned kidnaping or the recent “death note." This story ~ Pee well be an attempt by Davis to obtain publicity similar to that afforded the Sinatras in the recent kidnaping of Frank Sinatra, Jr. ACTION RECOMMENDED: 1. In view of the publicity afforded this matter and the likelihood of press inquiry, it is recommended that we interview Sammy Davis, Jr. to determine if this alleged kidnaping or the "death pote” recently received by him constitutes a Federal violation.
