This young man applied for a.position in the Stnte Deyart:ent. The file indicates he is a very close friend of reported Communists. and that he is closely associated with members of Conmnlst-front organizations. The file inticates thrt his wife belongs to an organization listed as subversive finarcial interest in the Daily Worker. "hr. President, I belleve I have covered this case before, and what I have just said seems to be a repetition. This is the case of a young man who ended up as a speech writer in a well-known house in Washington." Possible Icentification : Cases Ho. 9 and 77 apparently relate to The Bureau has conducted the following investigations of Departnental Applicant, 1937-1938, (reports sent to the Department): Internal Security, 194l, (report to Department): Hatch Act, 1942, (report to OEh, May 1942, which advised retained 1 in employment at OPA; report sent to State Department, December l946; to Mr. Dawson, White House, Novenber l0, l94s; and summary of infor- mation furnished orally to Secret Service, White Houte Detail. 11 January 3, 1949; b7c /2/- 232 18 -/37 ENCLOSURE
